There are 2 types of protruded lips. The one is that only teeth are projected and the other is that teeth and gum are projected together. If short chin or long chin is paired with protruded lips, you need two-jaw surgery to correct them.
3 procedures of protruded lips correction
A. Orthodontics
When only teeth are protruded tooth extraction and orthodontics can bring you desired result. But when gum is projected together, protruded lips surgery is necessary.
B. Anterior Segmental Osteotomy(ASO)
Anterior Segmental Osteotomy(ASO) is the most generally
used surgical method and this is to remove tooth and gum behind canine tooth and move the whole front teeth backwards. The recovery
period is short and daily activity is possible after 3~4 days after surgery.
1. Measure the facial bone using 3D CT for precise diagnosis.
2. Secure 7~8mm after extracting tooth behind canine tooth.
3. Remove the gum and move gum backwards, so protruded lips can be improved.
(6 months of orthodontics is accompanied in order to fill the gap after extraction)
C. Two-jaw surgery
If short chin or long chin is paired with protruded lips, you need two-jaw surgery to correct them.
