Many women love the way their breasts look in a push-up bra. The pushed up look has always been viewed as a sexy look and often times a look that signifies youthfulness. A lot of patients who seek out breast augmentation want that same look when they rejuvenate their breasts, but is it a good thing? Board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Simeon Wall Jr. and Dr. Bruce Van Natta discuss their opposing viewpoints and give patients something to think about when it comes to breast implants and positioning.

The Push Up Bra Look

Push up bras are sold for a reason: it’s a easy way to accentuate a woman’s breasts and make them look sexy. Normally, the older you get, the less volume you have in your breasts to be pushed up. When consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon, what will they say to the notion that you would like a push up bra look with your implants?

“In my opinion, it’s not a good idea,” says Van Natta. “If you have that look, that means your implant is too big or not in the right place. Even if the patient likes that look, they’re not gonna like the long term consequences.”

“I totally disagree,” says Dr. Wall Jr. “If we took that approach on all the patients that come to see us, we probably wouldn’t be fixing many people. Of course we want to pay attention to the tissue characteristics of the patients and we don’t want to exceed the width of the breast. We want to educate our patients, but I think  if they come in and have low positioned breasts and they want more of a ‘push up bra look’, it is reasonable to be able to deliver a very predictable surgery that we can reproduce over and over with a low re-operative rate.”

Where to Place the Implant: High or Low?

When it comes to breast augmentation, board certified plastic surgeons have a lengthy consultation with a patient in order to take all of the proper measurements. Current breast size, width of the chest, strength of surrounding tissue… all of these variables come into play when it comes to choosing the right implant. Dr. Van Natta believes positioning implants higher up on the chest (in order to achieve a push up bra look) may spell disaster for future complications. ”If measurements and chest anatomy didn’t matter and they want that look, I’m not one to judge,” says Van Natta. “But that’s not the case, and I want them to have good, long-term outcomes. I don’t think you get that when you get that push up bra look.”

Dr. Wall disagrees by stating, “When they’re younger, we’re trying to position that breast a little higher, maybe even with a lift at the same time. When they get older, and it’s more age-appropriate for them to sit lower, then sure it’s going to sit a little lower as they age. If you don’t position (the implant) upwards at the beginning, then they’re going to stay low and matronly the whole time!”

Both physicians do agree that a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon is the most important part of the entire breast augmentation process. Now over 70~80% of people who received two-jaw surgery chose this surgery because doctor recommended the surgery or patients required the surgery, even if they don’t have severe protruded chin, protruded lip or facial asymmetry.

I had a dream since I was a kid. My dream is to become stewardess.
So I majored in airline service department.
After graduation I passed the document examinations but couldn’t passed all the job interviews. I was disappointed so much but I tried my best, but it didn’t work.
Sometimes I aimlessly wandered and worried if it does not suits me, but I could notice what I was lack of. My friends who became stewardess all had soft, good appearance. Maybe they seemed so because they got the job.
Of course I cannot say they got the job only because their appearance were nice, but you know that how much appearance matters in the service field.
So I searched for plastic surgery and could take a chance to meet wonderful plastic surgery center.
I didn’t like my lips projected, my cheekbone projected and my flat face.
But Dr. Jung, Jong pil pointed out all the problems of my face quiet correctly. So I decided to receive surgery.
I received 3D contour celebrity surgery. I could get surgery on my cheekbone, square jaw, short chin and forehead.
And for eyes I received non-incisional double eyelid surgery, inner corner extension and fat repositioning surgery to remove dark circle. And also I had nose surgery.
It didn’t end there. I am tall but my body is lack of curve, so it only looked skinny.
So I decided to receive breast surgery also.

I got so many surgeries.
But they made me so naturally beautiful. Actually I had worried that they would make me look like weird woman after plastic surgery but now I’m relieved.
Now I will begin my surgery diary.

D-Day of surgery
Staff took my face photo before surgery and I entered operation room. I was so nervous but I could be in comfort with the help of our nurse.
And I could be more comfortable when our representative doctor said don’t worry.

2nd day after surgery
I am not sure because of swelling, but I am so excited about how my face is going to be changed.

1 week after surgery
Big swelling was gone and I feel so flattered when I hear from nurse that I look so pretty.

2 months after surgery
Swelling’s all gone and I became so much prettier. I got oval-shaped face and my nose become higher and defined. And my eyes look natural. Now I feel like I can do job interview really good.
Now so many people say I resemble Yuna Kim, and I feel confident when I walk by the street.
Now my couch says her attitude is full of self-esteem and she likes it.
My parents also love my appearance and I’m cannot be more satisfied.
Now I will do my best to become Yuna Kim in the sky.
