Cinderella Plastic Surgery Tips: Dos & Don'ts After Surgery

After surgery is a critical time for healing therefore you should invest some energy and time BEFORE you go into the surgery room! There are a few things you should and should not do after the surgery. You can actually prepare yourself before the surgery so that during post-surgery you can just relax and heal your way to the new beautiful you!

DOs

1. Cold Pack
This is very important during the first 3-7 days of your surgery. The bigger your surgery, the more days you will need cold pack. This will help you with any pain or discomfort during post-surgery. The cold pack can also help you with swelling. DO NOT put a cold or ice pack directly onto your skin as it can damage your skin. The best way to do it is to put a fabric or even tissue before you put the cold pack and leave it for 15-20 minutes.

2. Sleeping on Your Back with Two Pillows
When you have surgery on your face, it is natural to sleep on your back but it is even better if you use two pillows instead of one. This is especially good for rhinoplasty patients as sleeping with two pillows help to deswell faster. Sleeping on different directions may cause your nose to crook or bend in different directions so you might want to be careful about your sleeping position and behavior.

3. How to Wash Your Face?
Washing your face when stitches are still on is not an option therefore you might want to get a new sponge or facial towel for your face washing regimen. You can wipe your face softly and slowly to get rid of the dirt. You can then wash your face as normal 48 hours after your stitches are removed. (Usually stitches are removed 7 days after the surgery date) Be very careful not to get any water on your stitches or surgery area as it may cause infections.

4. Vitamins and Fruits
Healthy patients will lead to healthy healing and healthy healing will lead to a new beautiful you! Even if you don't usually eat healthy foods, it is crucial to consume vitamins and fruits to keep your body at its best condition during the healing period. This will make healing faster and results will show better. Bromellain supplements or just simple pineapple slices will do the trick for faster de-swelling agents.

5. Light Activities
Healing time is definitely boring but that doesn't mean you have to sleep all day long waiting for your body to heal. Forget all the swelling and do some light activities such as walking, texting your friends, playing games, watching dramas or movies and even reading articles. Walking helps you to deswell faster and all the other activities can help you to forget the discomfort and stress that you might have a few days after the surgery.

DON'Ts

1. Active Lifestyle

You just came back from surgery whether it be big or small surgery. Just like when you are sick, your body needs some rest to be able to heal appropriately. A few weeks of waiting will be worth it after you see the result of your surgery.

2. Shower and Washing Your Face

Shower or washing your face too early may cause infection on the open wounds. As a result it will not heal beautifully. We know bad smell and oily hair will bother you but better be safe than sorry, right? The patience will pay off in a few months! Beauty is pain but satisfactory result will bring so much happiness and satisfaction!

3. Keep Looking at the Mirror

You have no idea how many patients are stressing and freaking out about their surgery areas. This is extremely hard to do but keep looking at the mirror will not help with your healing instead it will make you heal slower than usual. The stress and frustration while looking at your wounds are not worth it! There are many who cannot heal properly and are stressed out especially during the first month. I have learnt that waiting is not going to solve the problem. If you insist on wanting to know your healing process, take pictures the morning you wake up and ditch the mirror for the rest of the day because nothing will change or you will not notice any changes as you keep looking at the surgery area. When you forgot you had surgery, you will have less stress and healing will be a breeze.

I hope the tips above will help your healing journey!

Cinderella Plastic Surgery, Nose Implants (Silicone vs Ear Cartilage)

What are nose implants?

When you do nose surgery, the surgeon will place some materials into your nose to make it look more structured, defined, and beautiful. There are many cases where nose implants are needed for example flat and short noses.

What are the types of nose implants that our hospital use?

Our hospital uses different kinds of implants but we will introduce the most widely used implants in all plastic surgery in Korea which are silicone and ear cartilage.

I-Shaped? L-Shaped? Silicone implants?

These implants are made from silicone. The only difference is I-shaped implant only covers the nose bridge therefore it will make your nose bridge higher. On the other hand, L-shaped covers nose bridge and nose tip which makes your nose bridge higher and it adds more definition to your nose tip. The implants can be sculpted and shaped according to patient's needs so there is no worries about sizing.

How about Cartilage as an implant?

The cartilage can be taken out from 3 places which are your ears, rib cage and your septum (nose). The most common ones that are used in our hospital are ear and septum cartilage. For patients who want to have more natural looking nose in oppose to very high and defined nose usually goes for cartilage for their nose implant choice.

Thin vs. Thick Skin

People might have thick or thin skin on their nose. Thicker skin can protect nose implant such as silicone better. What if you have thin skin? There are some ways to go around this problem. For example, the doctor can add a layer of material that can act as additional skin to be the barrier for your implant. Another option is you can use your own cartilage as it is ideal for people who have thinner skin as it is not too high and it is basically your own body tissue so it is safer and more natural and it lasts longer.

Silicone vs. Cartilage

Which one should you go for? This is such a tricky question as everybody has different preferences and body conditions. People who would like to have straighter, higher and more defined nose usually go for silicone implant. People who like more natural look and dislike putting other materials and feel comfortable with their own body tissue usually goes for cartilage implants. There are things that you should consider when choosing implants such as cartilage can be absorbed by the body and over time they might curl up, twist or shrink. Sometimes one's cartilage is too weak or the amount maybe lacking therefore it may fail to create the desired and definition to your nose. Silicone on the other hand does not shrink and stay the same over a long period of time.
