Cinderella Plastic Surgery, Nose Implants (Silicone vs Ear Cartilage)

What are nose implants?

When you do nose surgery, the surgeon will place some materials into your nose to make it look more structured, defined, and beautiful. There are many cases where nose implants are needed for example flat and short noses.

What are the types of nose implants that our hospital use?

Our hospital uses different kinds of implants but we will introduce the most widely used implants in all plastic surgery in Korea which are silicone and ear cartilage.

I-Shaped? L-Shaped? Silicone implants?

These implants are made from silicone. The only difference is I-shaped implant only covers the nose bridge therefore it will make your nose bridge higher. On the other hand, L-shaped covers nose bridge and nose tip which makes your nose bridge higher and it adds more definition to your nose tip. The implants can be sculpted and shaped according to patient's needs so there is no worries about sizing.

How about Cartilage as an implant?

The cartilage can be taken out from 3 places which are your ears, rib cage and your septum (nose). The most common ones that are used in our hospital are ear and septum cartilage. For patients who want to have more natural looking nose in oppose to very high and defined nose usually goes for cartilage for their nose implant choice.

Thin vs. Thick Skin

People might have thick or thin skin on their nose. Thicker skin can protect nose implant such as silicone better. What if you have thin skin? There are some ways to go around this problem. For example, the doctor can add a layer of material that can act as additional skin to be the barrier for your implant. Another option is you can use your own cartilage as it is ideal for people who have thinner skin as it is not too high and it is basically your own body tissue so it is safer and more natural and it lasts longer.

Silicone vs. Cartilage

Which one should you go for? This is such a tricky question as everybody has different preferences and body conditions. People who would like to have straighter, higher and more defined nose usually go for silicone implant. People who like more natural look and dislike putting other materials and feel comfortable with their own body tissue usually goes for cartilage implants. There are things that you should consider when choosing implants such as cartilage can be absorbed by the body and over time they might curl up, twist or shrink. Sometimes one's cartilage is too weak or the amount maybe lacking therefore it may fail to create the desired and definition to your nose. Silicone on the other hand does not shrink and stay the same over a long period of time.

Cinderella Plastic Surgery, Rhinoplasty (Upturned Nose)

What is upturned(short) nose?

If your nostril is seen a lot when you look at yourself in the mirror, we call it upturned nose. Usually the length of an upturned nose is short.

When your nose is short it should be lengthened by nasal septum extension, and if length is normal but when the nasal tip is rotated, this can be corrected by nasal cartilage correction or cartilage implant on the nose tip.

Cases requiring upturned nose correction

If nose is short compared to your face

If your nose is short and the nose tip is upturned

If nostril is seen too much when see it from the front

When the length of nose is short and crooked

When revision surgery is needed

Surgical methods of upturned nose correction

1. Cartilage refinement

If the tip cartilage is placed in the higher position, the nasal tip can look upturned so the nostril can be seen a lot when looking at it from the front.

In this case if we resect upper part of cartilage and fix the nasal cartilage on the lower position, the upturned nose will be much improved.

2. Cartilage transplant

We can make your nose longer by transplanting extra enough to lengthen your nose.

3. Nose augmentation

Normally when we think about upturned nose we only think about nostrils to be seen, but the actual reason can be nose starting from lower part of face. In this case we can make your nose look longer by nose augmentation surgery.

Cinderella Plastic Surgery, Rhinoplasty (Hooked Nose Correction)

What is hooked nose?

When nose bridge is projected and nose tip is drooped it can make strong appearance.

This is because of projection of the connecting part of bone and cartilage, and we can correct it by cutting projected part of bone and cartilage.

Long septal cartilage can be cut and replaced at the new position. so, nose tip can be higher.

If the case it not severe, nose augmentation surgery can improve this problem.

Cases requiring hooked nose correction

If nose line is not pretty because of hump on the nose

If the nose bridge is high but the shape is not natural

If the nose is crooked

If nose tip is round

If the face has less volume overall

If you want revision surgery because nose is not pretty after surgery

Surgical methods of hooked nose correction

1. If nose bridge has small hump

1. Make incision inside nose.
2. Trim projected part using equipment.
3. It is simple surgery and it takes 30~40 minutes.

2. When the nose has big hump

1. Cut projected part of nose bridge.
2. Narrow nasal cartilage and make it higher.
3. Make props using your own cartilage like ear cartilage.

3. When the nose has big hump

1. Cut the projected part of nose bridge.
2. Narrow nasal cartilage and make it higher.
3. Make props using your own cartilage like ear cartilage.
4. Use implant to make nose higher
